Uppsala University is a comprehensive research-intensive university with a strong international standing. Our mission is to pursue top-quality research and education and to interact constructively with society. Our most important assets are all the individuals whose curiosity and dedication make Uppsala University one of Sweden’s most exciting workplaces. Uppsala University has 42,000 students, 7,000 employees and a turnover of SEK 6.7 billion.
Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory conducts research and education in chemistry. The Department has over 300 active persons, of which 200 are employees and the rest consists of guest researchers and students doing research at Master level. Annual turnover is almost 200 million SEK. You can find more information here.
The Molecular Inorganic Chemistry group is part of the Department of Chemistry, Ångström Laboratories, within the Chemistry section at Uppsala University. For more information please press here.
The Orthaber group is situated in a modern building at the Ångström Laboratory. The research at the Department spans from materials chemistry to physical chemistry, and from biochemistry to molecular biology. Strong cross-disciplinary collaborations are characteristic for the Department.
Duties: The position is situated in the area of synthetic main group chemistry in combination with organic and physical chemistry and homogeneous catalysis. The project deals with the conversion of carbon dioxide into methanol using frustrated Lewis Pairs. The applicant is expected to conduct cutting edge research towards the above goals. Strong collaborations within the Department of Chemistry especially with the research groups of Dr. Berggren and Tian are important.
All projects involve the synthesis of air- and moisture-sensitive, molecular compounds and their characterization by standard spectroscopic techniques and evaluated for their catalytic activities. Further functional studies of the synthesized compounds by more advanced spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques are performed by the candidate and in collaboration with other groups at UU, in Sweden and abroad.
Requirements: The applicant must hold a PhD in Chemistry or related areas. Documented experience in main group synthesis, see description of duties and good knowledge in English is essential.
Additional qualifications: Experience in advanced spectroscopic techniques and the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams is a benefit.
Uppsala University strives to be an inclusive workplace that promotes equal opportunities and attracts qualified candidates who can contribute to the University’s excellence and diversity. We welcome applications from all sections of the community and from people of all backgrounds.
