Data are central in solid Earth sciences and legacy data have a high value for new research. Nevertheless, many disciplines do not have a tradition of data sharing and preservation, but this situation is presently changing.
A key issue in promoting the sharing of data is usability, that the user of a external data sets understands exactly what the data are about and how to use them and that the effort of sharing such data is little for the data producer. This talk and discussion will, amongst others, touch topics like data publication, metadata, standards and sample documentation and concisely introduce some related data initiatives and infrastructures, all with the intention to demonstrate that open data are worth the effort and interesting to get engaged with.
The lecture will be held in english. There will be a sandwich and coffe/tea, first come first served.
