LEARNING OUTCOMES

The course aims to provide basic knowledge of planning and leading research projects. We mix introductions to thematic areas within project management with individual and group assignments linked to the research fields and activities of the participants. The assignments aim to critically discuss the readings and stimulate comparative discussions between the participants’ subject areas, as well as to allow for a discussion of particular topics such as larger international research collaboration projects and collaborative projects between university and industry.

LEARNING OUTCOMES FOR DOCTORAL DEGREE 

The course contributes to progression towards the doctoral degree in the following areas:

  • to demonstrate the ability to critically, independently, and creatively formulate issues and to plan and with adequate methods conduct research and other qualified tasks within given time frames;
  • demonstrate the ability to present and discuss research and research results in dialogue with the scientific community and society in general, both in national and international contexts, orally and in writing.

COURSE CONTENTS

Foundational theories and tools within project management. Different types of projects – the unique nature of academic project management. Project planning and coordination. Project budgets. Stakeholder perspectives. Leadership and communication. Projectification. Interviews with academic project managers.

INSTRUCTION

The course consists of three lectures and three workshops / seminars, and one interview. Course literature should be read in advance of each class.

ASSESSMENT

Three assignments.
