Compulsory Course in Research Ethics

For doctoral students within the Faculty for Science and Technology a course on Research Ethics (of at least 2 credits) is mandatory for both Licentiate and Doctor degree. Either of the two courses, Ethics of technology and science (part I) or Research Ethics for Science and Technology, is recommended.

Ethics of Technology and Science (part I)

  • Preliminary schedule for the first course instance during 2023: 20 Jan and 26 Jan (lectures), 02 Feb and 09 Feb (seminars). The course is given on campus. Last day to apply is on 14 December 2022. Application is closed.
  • Preliminary schedule for the second course instance during 2023: 21 and 28 Sept (lectures), 5 and 12 Oct (seminars). The course is given on campus 09.15-12.00. Last day to apply is on 21 August 2023. Application is closed.
  • Preliminary schedule for the third course instance during 2023: 9 and 16 Oct (lectures), 23 and 30 Oct (seminars). The course is given online for doctoral students on other campuses or other locations, 09.15-12.00. Last day to apply is on 11 Sept 2023. Application is closed.

Selection: Doctoral students are selected based on admission year, time of doctoral defence, and if applicable time of licentiate seminar and motivation for participating in the course instance online. 

Research Ethics for Science and Technology

  • Preliminary schedule for the first course instance during 2023: 11-13 April, 18-20 April and 25-27 April. Last day to apply is on 22 January 2023. The course is given online/Zoom. Application is closed.
  • Preliminary schedule for the second course instance during 2023: 8-10 May, 15-17 May and 22-24 May. Last day to apply is on 12 February 2023. The course is given on campus. Application is closed.
  • ​Preliminary schedule for the third course instance during 2023: 7-9 November, 14-16 November and 21-23 November. Last day to apply is on 13 August 2023. The course is given on campus. Application is closed.
     

Transfer of credits for alternative ethics courses
Transfer of credits for alternative ethics courses is possible. Any credit transfer is handled by the director of studies for doctoral studies for decision by the Doctoral Educational Board.
